The UK's Higher Education and STEM Challenge: A Crisis of Diversity and Opportunity
The UK faces a systemic lack of diversity in Higher Education (HE), a challenge that affects a range of demographics and limits the UK’s potential for innovation.

This problem is particularly pronounced in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM), where, according to the Institute of Physics:
-
Less than 30% of post-16 physics students are girls
-
Students from the most deprived backgrounds are 3 times less likely to take A-level physics
-
Students from low-income households are 6 times less likely to achieve the top grade compared to their wealthier peers
-
One in four schools does not have a physics teacher

Orbyts provides accessible STEM and HE opportunities for underrepresented groups.
Orbyts believes that science should be truly inclusive for everyone, regardless of socioeconomic background, ethnicity, or gender. By creating clear pathways to success and directly investing in the next generation, we are helping to build a more inclusive and innovative future.
Orbyts transforms science education by forging unique partnerships, pairing researchers directly with schools. Our project-based learning programme moves beyond the standard curriculum, immersing students in novel, real-life research projects that provide an unparalleled opportunity to engage with science in a meaningful and empowering way.

Our Collective Journey Towards Empowerment and Equity
Orbyts' momentum has built over the last decade, engaging thousands of students in hundreds of research projects through our flourishing UK network of Hubs. This wide-reaching success wouldn't be possible without the unwavering support of our partners and sponsors. Their commitment is the foundation that fuels our ability to expand our reach across the UK, accelerate progress toward greater equity in STEM and HE, and empower the next generation of future leaders.

Let's Build a More Inclusive Future
If you share our goal of building a more inclusive future for science, we would love to work together!
Help us make a meaningful difference in Higher Education and STEM accessibility and inclusion. Through our dedicated researcher-school partnerships, your support provides underrepresented students with the materials and expert mentorship they need to complete an authentic, original research project. This gives them a tangible opportunity to see themselves as scientists, empowering them to forge their own pathways and build a future in STEM.

Our program is overseen by Research Inspired CIC, a registered Community Interest Company that ensures your support is handled with transparency and directly fuels our mission. To learn more about Research Inspired CIC and their ethos, check out https://www.researchinspired.com/.
